During the humanitarian crisis that has unfolded in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Chirang districts of the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) and the adjoining Dhubri district, we have witnessed the tragedy of nearly 400,000 people belonging to the Bodo and Muslim communities being forced to move to 273 temporary refugee camps. These people will stand internally displaced, scarred and traumatised for months to come, if not years. So far, it is estimated that 65 persons have lost their lives and around 500 villages have been torched to the ground. The magnitude of this human tragedy is overwhelming considering the short span of two weeks in which it occurred. It poses a serious threat to the already fragile state of secularism in the region whose demography has always been so diverse. It urgently calls for a restoration of trust and confidence amongst all the people affected by the riots.
In association with Rhino Society(NGO) and Pragati Society(NGO), Samuhik Gyan Vikash Kendra, Gomafulbari (SGvKG) organized a Donation Collection and Distribution Program for the Affected People of BTAD Riot/2012 from 29th July to 5th Aug/2012. In this program, donations in terms of Cloth, food, cook utensils and also cash amount were collected during 29th July to 4th Aug/2012 from various part of south-east Barpeta and distributed all on 5th Aug/12 to the various camps at Dhubri district. Besides the cloths, we distributed a packet to each affected family containing rice. chira, mustered oil, candle and matches. The monetary account of the program will be published soon in detail.
We would like to thank all the people of south-east Barpeta specially the people of Gomafulbari, Fulbari, Haripur, Padmapara, Khongra, Bagudi, Omura, Gelabil, Suhabil Dolony, Palhaji, Kakdhua(Ward No. 2) who donated in open hand. Their open hand donation made our entire program successful. Gomafulbari Jame masjid, Bagudi Jame Masjid played a great role in this program. The powerhouse of this program were the members and workers of SGvKG, Rhino and Pragati Society. This powerhouse played the vital role for which we were able to push the ball into the net. Thank you All.

All though, the materials we supplied were not sufficient for the affected people, we just wants to show them that they are not alone in this deadly situation.
